Mt. Semeru & Mt. Bromo 4D3N

Mt. Semeru (or Mahameru, the great mountain) is an active strato-volcano located administratively in Lumajang regency. However, Semeru is most accessible from Malang, thanks to the good transportation infrastructure. Being the highest volcano on Java island at 3676masl, Semeru is very popular and prestigious among trekkers. This volcano has a spectacular lava dome crater, which crashes every 20 to 30 minutes, ejecting a high thick grey smoke. MountBromo (2200m asl) is widely known as one of the most beautiful volcanoes in Indonesia. Besides the active crater, Bromo also offers the view of beautiful sunrise from Penanjakan view point (2700m asl). Mt. Bromo offers an exceptional view like no other, with the variety of vegetation, as well as it desert-like passage, locally known as sea of sand.

Note :

It is obligatory to hand original health certificate to the registration office of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in Ranupani. This health certificate can be obtained directly from your local hospital / general physician (on your own expense) or in small clinic in Tumpang (fee is included in the package price).

Day 1

Pick up in Surabaya – Transfer to Tumpang (600m asl)

You will be welcomed by our guide at Juanda airport Surabaya. You will then go to Tumpang village for about 3 hours by our private air conditioned car. You have an option to do city tour around historical city of Malang, including a short visit to the infamous flower market, Chinese Temple, and CandiJago Temple. Stay and have dinner at Rani Homestay Tumpang.

Day 2

Tumpang (600m asl)– Ranupani(2100m asl) RanuKumbolo Lake (2400m asl) – Kalimati Basecamp (2700m asl)

You will have brakfast at 06.30 am, and go to small clinic nearby to obtain health certificate which is an obligatory requirement from the national park. You will then go by jeep to Ranupani, the starting point of the hike. You will see the rain forest along the way, and pass through Ngadas village, from which you can have a peek of the summit of Mt. Semeru. After this scenic drive, you will arrive to Ranupani, one of the highest villages in Java, at the elevation of 2100m above sea level. From this village, you will walk for 3 hours to RanuKumbolo lake (2400m asl), in which you will have a lunch break at the lake shore. After lunch, you will continue hiking for 2 hours to Kalimati basecamp (2700m asl), in which you will have dinner and camp for a night.

Day 3

Kalimati(2700m asl) – Summit (3676m asl) – Ranupani(2100m asl) – Cemorolawang (2100m asl)

You will wake up at 00.30 to have coffee and some snacks before hiking the summit of Mt. Semeru. You will walk the steep sandy slope of the volcano with over 900m of altitude gain for about 4 hours. You will see the beautiful sunrise and spectacular 360 degree view over East Java from the top of Mt. Semeru. You will descend to Kalimati campsite for about 1.5 hours. After having your well deserved breakfast and nap, you will descend back to RanuKumbolo lake to have lunch. After that, you will do the last 3 hours of walk to Ranupani village. You will then go to Cemorolawang village by 4WD jeep for 1 hour. You will have dinner and stay at a hotel in Cemorolawang.

Day 4

Sunrise Sightseeing at Penanjakan View Point (2700m asl) – Accession of Mt. Bromo(2300m asl)– Transfer to Surabaya

You will have another early morning wake up call, as you will have to leave the hotel at 03.30 in the morning to Penanjakan view point. You will have coffee and some snacks before having to wait for the sunrise at the view point. From the elevation of 2700m, you will see spectacular view of Tengger Caldera, Mt. Bromo, Mt. Batok, and some other mountains. You will also see Mt. Semeru stands tall a little bit far behind. You will then go to sea of sand to climb Mt. Bromo. It is an easy 1.5 km hike with only 200m of altitude gain. The challenging part would be the steep 250 steps of the stairs towards the summit of Mt. Bromo. After that, you will drive back to your hotel for breakfast and shower, to then drive to Surabaya airport for 3 hours. End of service.
